Around 1997-98 Paul and Fiona McCormack (Paul is Clares' brother, and therefore, Whitey's brother-in-law) were competing in local disc dog events around their home in Winston-Salem, NC. Having no one else to call that would be even remotely interested in their success in this area, they started calling Whitey & Clare in Morgantown. Here's a couple of shots of Skye, their Aussie (the disc pic was made into a 'Team Skye' hat, which Whitey still wears at all 'official' functions to this day!
Skye was a high-drive Aussie, and did really well at a number of disc dog events, and her success, coupled with Paul's constant cajoling, directly led to the formation of West Virginia Dog N Disc. Early on, we got some key instruction/direction from Skye at clinics in Warrenton,VA and Slatyfork, WV.
Unfortunately, Skye was lost too soon to this world in 2003, but her memory and spirit live on in every playdate, clinic, contest, and demo West Virginia Dog N Disc participates in. Thanks to her, over 200 West Virginia Dogs and their handlers have already been exposed to the pure joy of playing disc, and are leading much happier lives as a result!
