WEST VIRGINIA DISC DOG HALL OF FAME

2002 INDUCTEES

TAYLOR RUNNER AND TOADIE,"THE FRISBEE CATCHING DOG!"

Taylor and Toadie are the inaugural inductees into the Hall of Fame, and Taylor is the Godfather of Disc Doggin' fun in West Virginia! Back in the 1970's he and Toadie pioneered the sport in the Mountain State, and were fixtures of WVU Football games at old Mountaineer Field. They were banned for a short time, due to an impromptu performance during the 4th quarter of a blowout loss for the Mounties, but due to the huge public outcry that ensued, the 'lifetime ban' was reduced to 3 games (and the promise not to do it again!)

The many other highlights of their career together ranged from performing at halftime of a Pittsburgh Steelers game on Monday Night Football to hitch-hiking across the country and back!

Toadie was a special dog, and in the many articles written about them, was never referred to simply as Toadie, but always as Toadie, the Frisbee Catching Dog! In honor of him, our club is now referred to as 'the home of the frisbee catching dogs!'

We finally met up with Taylor early in 2002, and after many years away from Disc Dog action, he was as amazed and impressed with the teams of today, as we were amazed and impressed with (not to mention in awe of) him!

He came out to watch our first local Skyhoundz contest in 2002, and ended up competing with Bud (Owned by Marshall Smith of the Bluegrass Area Disc Dogs -but that's another story), a dog he had just met - and ended up WINNING! Still Crazy after all these years!
