| What You Need
to Know and Do |
- Cleanup after your dog so that we'll always be welcome wherever we go.
- We offer socialization time before and after each playdate/clinic. At all other times, if
your dog isn't performing or warming up, it must be crated or onleash.
- Be aware of what your dog is doing at the end of it's leash. Even the most well-socialized
dog will react to another dog in their space.
- Obedience, agility or other types of training certainly come in handy, but aren't requirements.
We'll show you how to teach the retrieve and other basic skills or more advanced moves like vaulting
and flips.
- For those members who need assistance learning to accurately throw a frisbee, we meet to
practice throws with the WVU Ultimate Frisbee Club on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 5-7 PM.

A Short History of Our Founding...
(As told by Whitey -of Whitey & Clare, Birkie & Mac)
Around 1997-98 Paul and Fiona McCormack (Paul is Clares' brother) were competing in local
disc dog events around their home in Winston-Salem, NC. Having no one else to call that
would be even remotely interested in their success in this area, they started calling
Whitey & Clare in Morgantown. Here's a couple of shots of Skye, their Aussie (the disc pic was made into
a 'Team Skye' hat, which Whitey still wears at all 'official' functions to this day!

About this time, Birkie had gotten his first frisbee tossed to him, and it was not "all good".
So, we got a floppy disc, and both Birkie and Mac started chasing that down. And it really was
more down than up at that point - we ALL had a lot of work to do (little did we know at the time!)
The 1999 World Championships were held in Washington DC -(on the Mall!), and Paul talked us into going
to watch with them. WOW!!!! Along with everything else going on, Whitey saw someone wearing a really
cool looking t-shirt, and of course, went right over to her to find out where they were selling them.
The answer? Jacksonville FL! A few months later, Whitey and Clare were actually at a clinic for the
Greater Jacksonville Disc and Dog Club - (and yes, we bought the t-shirts!) We also bought some 'real'
dog discs, along with a few videos, and headed back to WV to start REALLY playing with our dogs!
In August 2000, we headed down to Charleston WV, for our first Skyhoundz Local Championship - which
was being run by Paula Martin!. We'll skip all the details - like how many dogs were involved, but
the bottom line was, Mac took 3rd place, and we were hooked!
That fall, we talked BOPARC (in Morgantown) into letting us do a Disc Dog performance/booth at the
Mountaineer Balloon Festival, and based on the response we got, we held our first club session in
November 2000. We had around 20 dogs that first day, which blew us away!
Since then, we've conducted and hosted numerous contests, demonstrations, clinics and playdates. It's
starting to seem hazy already, and speaking of that - we met up with Taylor Runner! in 2002!
...And they all lived Happily Everafter!
